Returning to Melbourne’s best breakfast: a review of Hardware Société

Hardware Société is a place we had already been to a year ago… and it is the kind of place you can’t help but go back to. The quality of the ingredients and the care that goes into each dish is the reason why the hype of this place has not faded at all. You still need to put your name on a list and wait around 30 minutes when it is lunch time (except when you’re alone – I saw a guy walking in alone and he was immediately seated on our communal table).

Monsieur’s cappucino is beautiful, it’s just like dipping my lips into a cloud of milk! It’s one of those rare places where we have coffee (well… it’s his coffee, but since he’s got some fruit allergies and I’m the sampler…) since we tried to decrease our coffee consumption… :)

The most outstanding dish, however, was the plat du jour. I absolutely LOVED the duck confit with polenta truffle. The polenta was foam like and just so delicious! The shaved bits of truffle gave the dish another dimension, slightly earthy…. deeeelicious!

My main was filling, but Monsieur saved some room to get something sweet: croissant aux amandes.

We were seated right in front of the kitchen and I asked whether they had removed the toulouse sausage I loved (we had that one a year ago) and the head chef said it was on the menu occasionally! If you see either the toulouse sausage or the duck… Just go go go for both :)
