Visiting Historic Berrima – What to do when you’re in Berrima

[adsensea]Berrima is a small city nearby Bowral. We were there for Boxing day, and surprisingly, most of the shops were opened, the General Store, a shop selling a bit of everything for your house, the Bakery, and Mrs Oldbucks pantry. There’s a little path from the white horse Inn that is quite nice, the Stone Quarry Walk… leads you back to the post office.

Most of the buildings advertised near the Park (First Bank, Police station) are now houses… looking for a buyer. When you know that Berrima’s Gaol is still operating, you know why you do not want to be living in Berrima… but then, that’s just my point of view… and I grew up in a big city… so I guess it all depends on where you first started, and whether you’re very much into nature or easily scared by it (that would be me!).

I would advise a stop at the Old Bakery, and Mrs Oldbucks pantry. I didn’t find the jams to be exceptionally tasty, but that’s because I’m used to the homemade ones I guess.

As for the Jelly beans (AUD 4.00 for a little jar of 3 flavours), I loved the lychee jelly beans, liked the strawberry ones, but found the blackcurrant jelly beans to be utterly disappointing. Definitely wouldn’t recommend the blackcurrant, they tasted quite chemical. I also had the Chocolate coated orange peels. Nice, but no wow factor…
