Monsieur and I had had lunch down at the foodcourt. I went to Via del Corso, he had his usual wonton soup and pork bao at Din Tai Fung… And to balance the saltiness out of my Ceasar’s salad, I absolutely wanted to grab a dessert at Chat Thai, so we ended up with a sophisticated coconut ice cream AUD 6.9 and mango and sticky coconut rice AUD 8.

Chat Thai Westfield – Young coconut ice-cream with sweet sticky rice, candied palm seeds and roasted peanuts AUD 6.90
We both thought: How good can an ice cream be? Is it worth ordering ice cream in a restaurant? And this one was just the best coconut ice-cream I’ve ever had. The young coconut does make a huge difference, and I highly recommend this dessert. It has some sticky rice sweet/savoury style, and candied palm seeds that pair very well with the ice cream… The king of the dish is the ice cream and this will definitely be a dish we will reorder!
The sticky rice and mango is always a staple, and with mangoes being in season, Monsieur wants to order this dessert. As usual, it tastes great, the savoury and sweet balance is spot-on, and I only wish they’d serve more coconut cream… I love coconut cream! There’s a slight orange blossom water taste that is unusual though. I’m not a huge orange blossom water fan, but it’s so subtle it’s fine by me.
We’ve ordered sticky rice cakes once (layered cakes) and it had a shrimp/fishy taste, so from that moment on I’ve avoided this type of dessert. The desserts above have definitely reconciled me with Chat Thai Westfield!
