Review of Nuku Restaurant at Hilton Denarau in Fiji on our 2nd night

[adsensea]We spent 4 nights at the Hilton, the first one waiting for a pizza that never came, the 2nd having dinner at Nuku Restaurant, and because it was so very good, we did what we normally don’t do. We returned on our 4th night. (3rd night dinner was at the Hilton’s Asian themed restaurant, Maravu). We almost couldn’t fault anything on both dinners at Nuku (my Mojito on the first night didn’t taste of rum at all though). Prices are steep, but the quality exceeded our expectations.

Dinner is served either by the pool, or by the beach. We chose to be on the adult pool’s side as that night was extremely windy. Other patrons and our location offered a pleasing shelter against the stormy winds! The bread was surprisingly delicious and we had 2 each.

The Coconut crusted chicken FJD 26 is cooked to perfection, it’s deboned, the skin is crusted as promised and has a pleasant subtle coconut flavours that works quite well with the roasted pineapple. A match made in heaven! There are fortunately, 2 pieces of thigh so Monsieur and I get to share this entrée quite easily.

The Fijian fish of the day poached in coconut cream FJD 42 is the dish Monsieur and I both wanted to order. Now the fish is supposed to be the king of the dish, but I must say the prawns were amongst the best prawns I’ve ever had in my whole life. They were just perfect. As for the fish, it was cooked infused in coconut and soft, on a bed of fresh veggies and topped with crispy sweet potato fries. Yum!

Our second choice didn’t disappoint either. The open semolina lasagne’s FJD 49 taste was balanced and looked beautiful. The crab meat and prawns, once more, were fresh and perfect. Monsieur found the crab meat to be a tad too salty though, but I was OK with it.

By then we had just enough room for dessert, and the tiramisu tasted as innovative as it looked. The biscotti sitting on tope the panna cotta was perfect, and we left satiated.

The bill comes down to FJD 174.5, which is steep by Fijian standards, but we couldn’t fault any of the dishes we had and these were our holidays! Highly recommended!
