Watermoon – Potts Point – :o) $$

Watermoon is a real neighbourhood gem! It’s been a year we’ve seen it and for some reason, have never been attracted to the restaurant. Might be because it’s still close from the Cross/Backpackers? Anyway, we decided to give it a go this time and they didn’t disappoint!

Wagyu sushis

The wagyu’s a tad chewier than I’d expected but the taste is heavenly pleasant! Love it!

We drink Umeshu – plum alcohol – each time we’re in a Japanese restaurant. Monsieur has his on the rocks, I have lemonade with mine to make it less sweet. They’re nice enough to charge both umeshus as standard umeshus!

Monsieur and I have decided to go for the set menus. On sunday night, these are AUD 15 for a Miso Soup, japanese omelet, sashimis and teriyaki chicken. Add AUD 4 and you get tempuras with a delicious salad.

Monsieur gets the AUD 19 menu. The staff is very flexible, we can swap our oyster for fish. So here’s the sashimi we both get:

The fishes are real fresh and perfectly cut. Love it! Shortly afterwards, we get our miso soups.

Aside from the japanese omelet, which, sadly, I haven’t had a chance to take a pic of since it went straight in our mouths, here’s what I get as a main:

Chicken Teriyaki – Both Set Menu

Monsieur also gets Chicken teriyaki – We normally try to get different dishes so we can swap and try more flavours, but we both want the chicken today!

Here’s Monsieur’s tempura

Tempura – Monsieur’s set menu

Monsieur gets a special japanese salad that has potatoes, loads of garlic and a sauce that is so good we don’t have time to take a pic of the salad at all… Aside from the blurry one below:

For dessert, we get what a friend recommended me, a wasabi ice cream with saké jelly. It’s her fav’ and she’s the one who advised us to try Watermoon for a change.

Wasabi Ice Cream and Saké Jelly

I don’t like saké but the taste in the jelly is far from overwhelming. I think this dessert is really uncommon and that’s probably why I like it. Monsieur thinks the wasabi ice cream is too spicy.

Overall, Watermoon is a pleasant surprise. I really liked it and we will certainly go back as this restaurant is of really good value. There are far too few places that let you get such quality set menus from AUD 15!

Will we go back? Certainly! 9/10
